SunRocket has touted themselves as the “No Gotcha” phone company for quite a long time now. But what SunRocket is attempting to do to existing customers is totally deceitful, misleading and fraudulent!

If you are one of SunRocket’s customers that was promised a • Free extra phone number Local or AnyWhere Number - “With SunRocket's Annual or Monthly All-Inclusive Service, you get a Household Number and your choice of Signature Number automatically included!” SunRocket goes on to say “Or with SunRocket's Limited Edition Plan, you have the option to add another number for only $3.00/month.”

SunRocket made it very clear, anyone that signed up for the All-Inclusive service receives a Household number and also one Free extra phone number {Local or Anywhere signature number}. Any additional signature numbers would be charged $3.00 per month. Fair enough, simple to understand!

Any SunRocket customer that signed up for the Limited edition plan would receive a Household number only, and if they wished to receive a signature local or anywhere number would be charged an additional $3.00 per month. Again simple to understand, if you’re on the limited edition plan and had a signature number added, then you were already paying the additional $3.00 per month. Nothing lost, nothing gained.

It’s the All-inclusive customers that are getting the shaft from SunRocket myself included. The main reason I decided to go with SunRocket is I trusted them, after all they told us they were the “no gotcha phone company” they said “no hidden charges” “What you see is what you pay.” It was all there on the website, plain as day. I was taken in by all the hype!

In Dec. 2005, I decided to go with SunRocket and the All-inclusive annual service for $199 per year, and close to that 1st years end, SunRocket ran a promotion buy 1 year get the 2nd year free, so I called SunRocket and asked the CSR if it was the same All-inclusive service that I already had, she assured me that everything will remain the same and I would not lose caller ID, voicemail etc. nothing would change. I said ok fine and paid that $199 which means I’m all pre-paid till the end of December 2008.

SunRocket’s Deceitful Email May 23rd 2007 below:

Thank you for being such a loyal SunRocket member. We are writing you today regarding the telephone numbers assigned to your account.

From our records, we see that you have been utilizing our Signature Number service, which allows you to have more than one telephone number associated with your account. We hope you are enjoying the convenience of having additional telephone numbers to give to friends, family and colleagues.

Until recently, we ran an extended trial period during which we did not charge the monthly fee for Signature Numbers. However, starting with your July 2007 invoice, we will begin charging the stated $3.00/month fee for each Signature Number on your account - i.e. for each telephone number on your account in addition to your main, household telephone number.

If you no longer wish to utilize your Signature Number(s), you may remove these telephone numbers from your account by accessing the Member Account Manager using your email ID and password. Choose the My Account tab and then choose the Remove Phone Number selection from the menu on the left-hand side of the page. From there, you can simply choose the telephone number(s) you wish to remove.

Upon pressing the Remove button your Signature Number(s) will be removed from your account and deactivated for future use. If you choose to remove some telephone numbers from your account, and later request that SunRocket add telephone numbers back to your account, you will begin seeing a monthly fee of $4.99 per Signature Number instead of the Introductory Price of $3.00/month currently offered.

Please note, if you do not choose to remove a telephone number by July 2007, then your SunRocket invoice will begin to include a $3.00/month fee for each Signature Number on your account.

Thank you again for choosing SunRocket, we greatly appreciate your business.

Sincerely
SunRocket Member Services

The “No Gotcha” phone company? Yea right! Now how many of you at the time of purchase of the All-inclusive service were told they would receive a Free Extra Phone Number/Signature Number, raise your hands? Ok everyone just as I thought.

Thanks to the Internet Archive WayBackMachine we can go back and look at SunRocket’s websites at your time of purchase. The archive shows the start of SunRocket’s website from Oct. 14, 2004 up to April 27, 2006. In the archive nowhere and I repeat nowhere does it say SunRocket was doing any extended trial period on our free extra phone number/signature number.

Also the tone of that misleading email is an insult to all our intelligence, SunRocket is trying to imply that we should be ever so thankful for that supposed extended trial period? Oh thank you, thank you SunRocket for telling us we would get a free phone number along with our household number, and then as I said earlier {Making it up as you go} calling it a trial period. How convenient for SunRocket!!

Now I can understand if SunRocket wanted to raise their rates {No problem} I’m pre-paid until Dec. 2008, as I’m sure many customers have already pre-paid service. So it would not affect us until our term is up. I can also understand if SunRocket no longer wanted to give out free extra phone numbers/signature numbers to new customers starting on that July 1, 2007, but I as well as most SunRocket customers out there consider this fraudulent by going back on the deal. As long as we never disconnect that free extra phone number should always be ours.
