If you’ve ever looked at all the options for taking a cruise, you may have been overwhelmed by the possibilities.

As you narrow down the options, here are some considerations that may help you in making that final outdoor vacation decision.

Many people love the idea of being a tourist in the tropics. If you are considering a destination like Bermuda or the Bahamas, luckily they are just a day or so sail out of Florida and you often will see a new destination every day, enjoying the surf, sand, and local flavor. Many of these package holidays sell out quickly because of the popularity of the destination.

The off-peak months to this area are April-May and September-October. While these can be great times to get a good holiday package deal, you should also keep mind that the September-October time period is also hurricane season in this area.

For those who want a major cruise tourist experience, a cruise to Europe is usually at the top of their list. Some of the most popular are trans-oceanic cruises that begin at destinations such as New York. These are more costly cruise offerings. Since you are spending almost all of your time at sea, accommodations are more important on this trip, and rooms with balconies are much more expensive, and always sell out quickly.

Another hot destination is the Mediterranean. The 7-day cruises to this region seem to sell out time and time again. If you are considering booking one you should get set reservation well in advance. If you want anything special, like a nicer room, or any extras, you may need to book as far as a year in advance.

Other areas that require a year notice, or more, to get a the perfect cruise are Australia, and Hawaii.

If you would like to stay near to the U.S. Mainland, that can be accomplished. Many cruise lines offer cruises that sail up and down the east coast from New England to Florida, or up and down the west coast from San Diego, down into Cabo, Mexico. These tend to have a number of stops along the way where you can get off the ship and see other areas of the country.

One thing to consider when booking a cruise is the ship you are going to sail on. While many people want to sail on the biggest and best ships, they are going to pay for that luxury. Meanwhile, there are still a number of older ships that are out there sailing, that have the same offerings. Another way to get a better deal on your cruise package price is to take a look at some of the less popular destinations where you can have just as many great adventures and new experiences, but at a lower price.

No matter what cruise you want to book, one of the keys is finding out if there are early booking discounts. If there are, take advantage of them. Also keep you eyes open, travel sales and deals can pop up at any time.
