Since its inception in April 1830, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has always had a relationship with business. From the N.K. Whitney store 180 years ago to church owned Deseret Book Company, which is getting ready to celebrate 140 years in business, the Latter-day Saints have always been mercantile minded. Nauvoo hosts another great historic business Zions Mercantile. “This building and its nightly rentals and old store are great examples of the value based businesses that have always been a part of our history” says Mathew Glenn, President of Zions Mercantile; “Industry and hard work is part of our heritage.”

Zions Mercantile is located across the street from the Nauvoo Temple and has an old fashioned store on the main floor. The store sells everything from handmade soaps and candles to real antiques and art. Above the store are nightly rooms, which were designed a little larger and are modeled after the historic homes and Inns of old Nauvoo. Each room has breathtaking and up-close views of the Temple and balconies that look out over the little town. The rooms can be rented nightly and offer families a place where they can all stay together instead of breaking up into several small motel rooms outside of town.

“We have a great store on the main floor which offers Deseret Book products, and family lodging on the upper floor that makes this whole building seem to come alive with history” says Glenn. Zions Mercantile also has a bakery which offered specialty soups and sandwiches as well as an array of baked pies and breads.

“Our real goal is to continue to preserve the tradition of good value and friendly service. We hope that will always remain our trademark” says Glenn. Rooms at the Historic Zions Mercantile can be reserved by calling 800-860-1215
